FUEL HER FIRE

AND SHE WILL WIN

The network of local Girls Inc. nonprofit organizations serves girls ages 6-18 at more than 1,200 sites in 350 cities across the United States and Canada. Our research-based programming is delivered by trained professionalswho focus on the development of the whole girl, supporting, mentoring, and guiding girls in an affirming, pro-girl environment. Here, girls learn to value their whole selves, discover and develop their inherent strengths, and receive the support they need to navigate the challenges they face.

Girls Inc. girls live healthy and active lifestyles and are less likely to engage in risky behavior; they are eager to learn, successful in school, and more likely to graduate from post-secondary education; and they display diligence, perseverance and resilience.

89% of Girls inc. girls find science or math interesting.

STEM

Statistics indicate that when given the opportunity, girls perform equal to or better than their male counterparts in STEM subjects. However, girls are generally not afforded the same level of opportunity in school, in fact, if girls are not provided the opportunity to explore the STEM subjects by 7th grade, the likelihood of their choosing this direction of education or employment is significantly diminished.

Girls Inc. provides that opportunity with enjoyable, engaging and challenging activities in all STEM areas, including chemistry, biology, marine science, engineering, aerospace and much more. Math is critical to the full development of any child because it provides the foundation for critical thinking and problem solving.

Girls Inc. provides entertaining and targeted math activities to encourage girls to take a risk, step outside themselves and learn the critical thinking skills so necessary to becoming a well-rounded adult.

92% of Girls Inc. teens say they can use what they know to solve “real-life” problems in their communities.

Healthy Living and Life Skills

Every girl has to be nutritionally fulfilled if she is to reach her full academic potential, which is why Girls Inc. provides healthy, hot meals on a daily basis.

Girls need to clearly understand what it takes to develop and live a healthy life style. Therefore we partner with several organizations to work with the girls to develop a fully-functional organic garden, teach the girls and parents about affordable healthy cooking, and put them on a path to a healthy, self-sustained lifestyle.

All of these healthy living and life skills programs are designed to equip your daughter with the foundations to be successful in life, both academically and personally.

The more girls read for fun on their own time, the higher their reading scores.

Literacy

Literacy is important because it is the foundation for all other learning. If girls cannot read to proficiency by 3rd grade, their chances of success in upper education and employment are greatly diminished.

We have adopted Readers Theater, serving K-8, which provides an excellent platform for accomplishing both proficiency and engagement. Each grade level offers a multitude of age-appropriate stories that address all reading abilities.

Reading develops the confidence necessary to be successful in other subjects where reading skill is critical.

Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement

Creative Arts

A well-rounded program cannot only focus on academics, but must allow the creative spirit and energy to find root and blossom. Our creative arts program offers girls expression through dance and music, theater and fine arts.

Theater lets girls find their creative, joyful spirit through personal interpretation and expression.

Dance allows girls to have fun; fun without criticism or being concerned with how they look, how ‘good’ they dance, or without having to perform for approval.

Fine arts activate the right side of the brain, that creative energy, which not only enriches their lives, but increases their academic abilities.

Creative Arts provide a gentle balance to more academic subjects, and a release for day-to-day stress!

THREE ELEMENTS ARE CRITICAL TO SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES

PEOPLE

Trained staff and volunteers who build lasting, mentoring relationships. Our staff take the time to engage with families, encourage girls to pursue leadership positions, and serve as role models.

ENVIRONMENT

Girls-only, physically and emotionally safe; where there is a sisterhood of support, high expectations, and mutual respect.

RESEARCH-BASED PROGRAMMING

Research-based, hands-on and minds-on, age-appropriate, meeting the needs of today’s girls. Our trained staff develop locally-focused programs that ensure girls are exposed to new experiences.
