Two weeks ago, more than 80 girls grabbed books in a state where just more than half of third-graders read at grade level. Each book was stamped with the title of Devan’s Book Club.
Four months after cancer took Devan Endlich’s life, her United Way Suncoast colleagues on July 23 launched a literacy program to honor the marketing director who loved words, kids and community in equal measure. The timing couldn’t be more urgent in Florida, which ranks among the nation’s worst for adult literacy.
